We are a group of
handball-mad people looking to establish a new handball club in the
city of Bristol.
Actually handball is not new to the
city, in the 1980's there was a senior club playing out of Whitchuch
Sports Centre, and for many years there was a major international
handball tournament in Bristol,
which attracted top
class club teams from across the UK and Europe.
Mini and junior
handball has been played in the Bristol and Bath areas for many
years, thanks to the efforts of local coach Tim Robottom, and the
area boasts three players on Great Britain's World Class Handball
Programme, preparing for the London 2012 Olympic Games.
New club
established in 2006
The new Bristol
Handball Club played its first competitive handball matches in 2006 when it entered a team in the Weymouth International Beach
Handball Championship.
We even
managed to make the quarter finals in our very first competition.
Not bad considering non of the players had met each other before the
first match!
Plans for
handball in Bristol
Right now we are
busy recruiting players to join the Bristol club for the new season.
We have entered a men's team in the English League and want to
develop a women's team during the course of the season.
Weekly
training takes place at the City
Academy in Bristol. The club will be entering teams in the Weymouth
2008 International Beach Handball Championship in July 2008.
Ultimately we want
also to set up a junior development programme in Bristol to
establish mini and junior teams within the club.
